MEET THE ORCHESTRA

WALDEN BASS | cello

Walden Bass had been a member of the Syracuse Symphony since 1974. He came to Syracuse after 2 years as principal cello in the Charleston Symphony, West Virginia. As a young student, he spent 9 summers at the National Music Camp, Interlochen, Michigan. He earned his Bachelor and Masters of Music from the University of Michigan where he studied with Oliver Edel. He has been a member of Symphoria since it’s beginnings.

Walden enjoys working with young musicians and has coached the cello section of the Syracuse Symphony Youth Orchestra and conducted the All City Festival Orchestra for the city of Syracuse. He teaches cello at Hobart William Smith in Geneva and maintains a private cello studio in his home. Walden has been a member of the Seneca String Quartet since 1987.

Walden enjoys outdoor activities such as golf, bike riding and gardening. He loves singing medieval music with Schola Cantorum of Syracuse. Walden and his pianist/Symphoria box office wife Emily have two daughters, a grandson and soon to be born granddaughter.
