Eric Gustafson was the principal violist of the Syracuse Symphony, and now holds that position with Symphoria. He is also an adjunct faculty member at  Hamilton College and at the Syracuse University Setnor School of Music. He studied violin at Juilliard with Ivan Galamian and composition at the Manhattan School of Music. Additional studies in string quartet and viola took place via a fellowship at SUNY Binghamton, where he studied with Toby Apel. Gustafson is also a composer and a professional music engraver.

Mr. Gustafson has a broad understanding of the viola literature as well as orchestral music for the viola. He is also a founding member of the DeVere Quartet, which has given chamber music recitals and fundraisers in Central and Southern New York and Alaska.
