Russian-born violinist Martiros Shakhzadyan has appeared in solo and chamber music recitals throughout the USA and Russia. Martiros is a prizewinner of numerous competitions, including the Collegiate Division of the MTNA National Chamber Music Competition and the CNYAMT Solo Competition.
An avid chamber musician, he is a founding member of the award-winning Nubar Trio and Lunar Ensemble. With Lunar, Martiros has premiered numerous works for Pierrot ensemble and has been a guest at festivals including ArtScape in Baltimore, MD, and LAUNCH in Lancaster, PA. During Lunar’s Pierrot Centenary Project, Martiros held residencies at SUNY Fredonia and Peabody Conservatory, performing new works by Peabody composers alongside Schoenberg’s Pierrot Lunaire. Martiros frequently performs with professional ensembles in Central New York including Symphoria (formerly Syracuse Symphony), Tri-Cities Opera, Cornell’s Festival Orchestra, and Ensemble X. Most recently, Martiros has performed alongside distinguished chamber musicians at MayFest, Cornell’s prestigious international chamber music festival.
Martiros holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the Peabody Conservatory where he studied with Violaine Melancon and Victor Danchenko. He has also studied violin with Vladimir Pritsker and chamber music with Seth Knopp, Alexander Shtarkman, Marian Hahn, and Robert van Sice. Martiros is currently pursuing his Master of Music degree at Ithaca College in the studio of Susan Waterbury.
